JDRF Awards Dinner

Last night we attended the JDRF Awards Dinner 2009! It was really a lot of fun! It was was really nice seeing families we know and meeting new families! It was really excited to go up on stage and accept the award for the money we raised for TEAM NICHOLAS. What a fun filled evening, and Nicholas was so cute he clapped for everyone that went up to accept their award. I took him up on stage with me and he wanted to hold the microphone so the coordinator gave it to him and you know what Nicholas did...he threw it! I was so embarrassed but everyone just laughed and thankfully it didn't break! This year my parents were able to come with us which was very nice to have them there.

One Year Ago Today...

One year ago today I received the worst phone call of my life. One of my best friends had a brain aneurysm. My friend Danielle was the ONLY friend I had that TRULY understood what I was going through with the diabetes. Her son Hayden is 3 weeks younger than Nicholas and was diagnosed a month before Nicholas. We became great friends right away. We had so much in common and helped each other with everything. We were only a phone call away from each other and talked several times a day. We would always talk about when the boys got bigger they could have sleep overs and we wouldn't even have to worry. We were so much alike. I miss her so much. I think about her everyday and still go to reach for the phone some days to call her. She was a WONDERFUL mother, wife and friend. I know she is looking over all of us and watching out for us! As I am writing this the tears are rolling down my cheeks. I remember going to the ICU to say goodbye, she was already gone but it looked like she was still breathing because they were donated her organs so she was still hooked up to the machines. I sat at her bedside held her hand and thanked her for being her. I told her how grateful I was to have had her as my friend and in my life. I told her I would help out with Hayden however I could and that I would see her again someday. I miss her so much! Sorry for the sad post today...

High numbers...

Well, the last couple of weeks have been pretty tough! Nicholas blood sugar numbers have been all over the place. One night he went to bed at 134 and 2 hours later woke up at 545!!! So scary! He is not sick and has been acting pretty good considering his numbers. I am just so stressed out, worried, and tired! I just want my baby to feel good!!! We have adjusted his insulin and have been in constant contact with the doctors. It is not good for his little body to have such huge changes in his blood sugar numbers. The last 2 days his numbers have been pretty good so we are keeping our fingers crossed. At the end of November it will be 2 years since he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and all of our lives changed forever! I still pray everyday they will find a cure soon!

Halloween Fun!

Halloween was spooktacular! Nicholas was a race car driver and was so excited to go trick-or-treating! We took him to Sunrise mall, he was so excited at each little piece of candy he was given. It was so cute! Grandpa, Nana, Uncle Matt and Auntie Amber met us there to join in the fun. Uncle Matt even dressed up to match Nicholas. They were so cute! Then we came home and set all the candy out for the Halloween Witch! ( since Nicholas can't eat his candy the halloween witch comes and takes his candy and leaves him a special toy in its place) The next morning Nicholas went to find what the halloween witch had left him and he was so happy to find a big red firetruck! (That he played with ALL day)

Pumpkin Patch

Chris and I took Nicholas to the pumpkin patch and he had so much fun! They had some animals which of course he loved and they had tons of pumpkins! Last year he was terrified of them...but not this year he just ran and ran and wanted to take every single one home with us! The smaller pumpkins that he could pick up, he thought they were balls and tried throwing them. The day was a lot of family fun and laughs!

My Little Brother is ENGAGED!!!

On October 17th my baby brother got engaged to his girlfriend Amber! We are all very excited that she will be joining our family(officially)! I am excited that I will finally have a sister! And Nicholas already LOVES his Auntie Amber! We are all really excited to hear all the plans they are making and I am sure it will be a busy year.

So... today was a big day for me. The new school Nicholas is going to does not have a nurse on site to help manage his diabetes so I have been staying at school everyday. I have been teaching his teacher how to check his blood and the signs to watch out for, she has been doing GREAT! They are not allowed to give him his insulin but are allowed to test his blood sugar. SO today I left him in class for one hour without me. He did great and was happy as can be they told me, but me on the other hand cried like a baby all the way to the car and never actually left the school...lol! Tomorrow I think I am going to go home for an hour. I must sound so silly, but those of you who are mom's know what I am going through. How did my baby grow up so fast???

Hi! I have always wanted to start a blog, so I figured now is as good of time as ever. I am staying at home right now with my three year old son, Nicholas. He is the joy of my life!!! He was born with down syndrome and at 18 months was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He has always kept me very busy. He turned three in June so now he has to go through the school district for all of his therapies. WOW...what a change...and not for the best! We are trying to make the best of the situation and hoping for the best. He is the happiest little boy I have ever met and so so so lovable! (I might just be a little biased...lol)
